My name is Caroline.
The Tog Mom is a lifestyle blog that is an extension of my of self-care. I write about my personal mental health journey, photography, and parenting. I worked for ten years primarily in non-profits. I have come to realize that in finding the stable place emotionally that I’ve found while not working, I am providing something very important to my family and myself.
I have three boys with my husband they are all my pride and joy. As my kids grow older, I am trying to be respectful of their privacy in the balance of writing for this blog.
Photography is my life’s passion. I took up photography in 2011 and it has become the best tool in my self-care arsenal. I dream of being a semi-known fine art photographer, but I am happiest when I am puttering around with my camera in my yard. When I remember to use my camera as a self-care tool, I find myself able to compartmentalize my illness much more effectively. Most of the photography on The Tog Mom is my own unless otherwise noted.
I am just coming off the heels of a year and a half as a part-time professional photographer. I primarily did weddings, but also family and lifestyle sessions, a couple of newborn sessions, and I got to do one proposal. It was a lot of fun but I realized that client photography didn’t feed my soul the same way that more personal photography does. So, I have recently dissolved the business. I am happy to refer people looking for a photographer to some friends who do excellent work.
My newest project is a personal long-form writing project. I bought Scrivener years ago and I’m finally using it– yay!
Besides my family and photography, I love coffee, music, podcasts, and journaling both on paper analog-style and in a program called Bear. Laundry is the bane of my existence– sometimes I go with a dedicated laundry day but I am not in that routine at the moment. There is no good answer to doing laundry for five people, except to keep the washing machine going all. the. time.
